How to get there
To get to the Valle de la Luna one has to cross a region of sand and rock and on the sides of the route, horses and goats can be seen. From San Juán one has to cross the Valle Fértil and the City of San Agustín (717m high). In the fields tomatoes, garlic and onions are sowed. From San Agustín (from San Juan to San Agustín, there is a distance of 250 km), there is a bus service that takes the traveller to the Valley of the Moon, 80 km from San Agustín (Provincial Route 510, last town with fuel supply), Patquía and Villa Union can be used as base camps for the visit of this far away and strange place of our planet.
The only entrance to the park is on the national route 150, 17 km from the Provincial Route (route 510).

Access to Parque de Talampaya
From the city of La Rioja there are two possibilities: the Route 38 to Patquía, and then Route 26 to the west, (144 kilometres) (a total of 214 km on an asphalt road).
The other option is from Patquía take Route 47 toward the Northwest arriving (after 140 km) to Chilecito. You visit Los Mogotes Colorados (formations of eroded rocks) and the Cave of the Chacho (the Chacho Peñaloza, commander of the area during the civil war in the XIX century, took refuge here). In Chilecito (1074m high) one can take a rest, to continue then La Cuesta de Miranda (Mirandas Hill), a road that winds its way along more than 800 curves in the Sierra of Sañogasta (2000 meters high) (Route 40). After Villa Union (1200 m high) take Route 26 and you arrive at Talampaya using a rubble track. This second option is much longer but much more interesting.
