Sea lions (38 K)

Puerto Pirámides
( 99 km away from Puerto Madryn, on some rocks that look like pyramids, called bardas, where remains of 14 million year old fossilized animals can be found) in the northern coast of Golfo Nuevo, Puerto Pirámide is the only settlement on the peninsula (150 inhabitants) and the starting point for the boat trips to watch the mating of the whales during the months of September to December.

Whale (26 K)

The boats get very close to the whales. Many times the whales that are 13 or 14 m long and weigh around 30 tons, swim under the boats but they never attack them.. The whales have found the ideal place since the gulfs are narrow, the sea is calm, the water is not very cold and there is practically no wind. 5 km away from Puerto Pirámide is the sea lion colony. The sea lions and their kids can be watched from behind a fence. One has to remember that the Península de Valdés is one of the few places in the world where one can find nature as it was 160 years ago when Charles Darwin described it.
