Train to the clouds (41 K)

From the City of Salta (1,187 m above sea level) one travels along the Valley of Lerma, passing Alvarado, Cerrillos and Rosario de Lerma to Campo Quijano, which is the door to the Andes.
From here one starts climbing along the Quebrada del Río Toro on a viaduct which is 260 m long and 23 m high.
When one gets to Alisal, thezig-zags stars, until one gets to Chorrillos. One has to cross the stations Maury - the name of the American engeneer who built the train - and Gobernador Solá - who was responsible for carrying on with the idea. Here one is at 2.550 m above sea level.
But this is not all, one continues ascending to Puerta Tastil and Tacuara where one reaches 3,000 m.. Between this station and Diego de Almagro, at 3,500 m, one crosses the curves of Incahuasi, Cachiñal, Muñano and Los Patos until one gets to San Antonio de los Cobres (3,774 m), old city of the Andes Department.
After leaving behind Mina Concordia, one gets to La Polvorilla, the impressive viaduct at 4,230 m.
