Cacheuta
In Cacheuta there are thermal springs where one can combine rest with
activities of adventure tourism, for example trekking, rafting, mountain
bike, mountain climbing, etc. In this region remains of prehistoric animals
were found.
The thermal baths of Cacheuta offer excellent service and accommodation.
Villavicencio
Thermal baths of Villavicencio: They are 1700 meters above sea level and
here the most famous mineral water in Argentina is extracted.
It is transported by means of an aqueduct to the bottling plant in Mendoza.
From Villavicencio the road called Los Caracoles (The Snails) leads to
a plain where ñandúes can be seen. In this place Charles Darwin found
fossilised araucarias. In Cruz del Paramillo, (2800 m), one can see the
Tupungato (6800 m) in the Southwest; to the west,the Aconcagua (6959 m)
and to the Northwest the Mercedario (6770 m) .These are the highest summits
of the Andes.
Following the road to Uspallata one can see the formations that Darwin
described as "red, purple, green rocks and other totally white ones, alternating
with black lava".
Uspallata
Uspallata is at 2000 meters above sea level, and thanks to its climate
and its 300 days of sun a year, offers excellent possibilities to enjoy
nature in all seasons.
Here one can practice mountain bike, rafting in the River Mendoza and
local fauna can be watched. Uspallata has excellent accommodation and
services. It was used as background for films, "Of Love and Shades"
and "Seven years in the Tibet" were filmed here.
Puente del Inca
From Puente del Inca, a natural monument of incredible beauty, one can
see the Aconcagua of 6959 meters, the highest mountain in America. It
is a natural 19m high bridge over a river with a strange yellow colour
because it was apparently formed by sulphur bearing waters. The Inca already
knew the therapeutic qualities of the waters in Puente del Inca

Aconcagua
It is the highest summit in America, with 6962 meters and entirely in
Argentine territory. Its name in Quechua means Sentry of Stone. In the
gulch of Los Horcones, base of the mountain, expeditions from all over
the world meet. It is not an easy mountain "The Roof of America", as it
is usually called in Argentina. The massif includes also the mountains
Cuerno and Catedral, it is 60 km long and 20 km wide, it is surrounded
by The National Park Aconcagua, an ecological and archaeological reservation
of 75.000 ha. This Park is 180 km away from the City of Mendoza.
At dawn the Aconcagua looks grey, at dusk it becomes reddish. In its hillsides
there are five big glaciers: Horcones Superior, Horcones Inferior, Güssfeldt,
De las Vacas, De los Polacos or Los Relinchos.
Mathias Zurbriggen was the first man to climb the Aconcagua in 1897. From
Puente del Inca, there are tours which go to the southern wall of the
mountain, known as Plaza Francia. This tour should be made with guides.
Every time one tries to climb it, warning should be given in the stall
of the park keeper (The permits are obtained in the Subsecretaría de Turismo
or in the Dirección de Recursos Renovables, in the Parque General San
Martín in the City of Mendoza, tel/Fax ++54 261 4252090, 4257065).
In Confluencia (3000 meters) the first camp is usually set up.. Here the
roads of ascension divide.
The Northern Route is the easiest, one can get to the summit by just walking.
People from all over the world try it every summer. This was the road
that Zurbriggen used. The Southern Route is the most dangerous one and
the Route of the Glaciar de los Polacos is of intermediate difficulty.
The official season of ascension is between November and March.
Fares:
Ascension: permission for 20 days, 80 to 120 $, according to the season.
Long Trekking: permission for 7 days, 30 to 40 $, according to the season.
Short Trekking: permission for 3 days 15 to 20 $, according to the season.
The Provincial Park Aconcagua has during its official season a park keeper,
