(Cerro Tronador)
The tour begins in the street Onelli that leads to the National Route 258 skirting the riverbank of the Lake Gutierrez, from this lake one can see the Cerro Catedral. The road skirts the Lake Mascardi and then continues along the National Route 254. At the bridge of the Rio Manso there is a crossing. The road then continues towards the north to the Mirador, a natural balcony that offers a beautiful view. The road becomes narrow and rough and after a few kilometres you arrive at the Hotel Tronador, surrounded by high summits and with excellent views to the hills. After crossing the bridge on the Stream Los Césares. Here the Valley of the Río Manso Superior begins. After 15 km one has to cross a wooden bridge over the Meek River. You get to Pampa Linda (Hostel - restaurant and camping sites) after the bridge you get to the Ventisquero Negro (glacier, snowdrift) of the Manso Glacier. Further on one arrives at an immense rocky amphitheatre formed by the impressive cliffs of the oriental face of the Tronador, called Throat of the Devil.
Cerro Tronador (refuge Otto Meiling)
The ascent begins in Pampa Linda and the refuge is at 2.050 meters from which one has a spectacular view. When the forest is left behind, one has to walk on snow and the path is sheer and difficult but it becomes easier as one advances. The refuge is finally seen when one is almost there. It is recommended to spend the night in the refuge and to return the following day.
