The Bolsón

The Bolsón is in the Southwest of the Province of Río Negro near the Cerro
Piltriquitrón and on the east bank of the River Quemquemtreu.
Most of the farms nearby are devoted to hops, raspberries and strawberries,
cherries and apples. It lies in a basin surrounded by high mountains.
On the way between El Bolsón and San Carlos de Bariloche one can visit Lake
Guillelmo, Mascardi and Gutierrez after crossing the famous Cáñadón
de la Mosca.
Bolsón Fair (Arts and Craft)
It takes place on tuesdays, thursdays and saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm,
in Plaza Pagano.
It is famous for its handmade crafts, in wool, leather, ceramic, metal,
flowers, candies, etc.
Cerro Piltriquitrón
The Piltriquitrón yields a spectacular view across the Valley of the Río
Azul. After driving or walking to the 1000-meter level, another hour's walk
takes the tourist to the Refuge Piltriquitrón. On a clear day one can see
Lago Puelo, the Cerro Tronador, and the Volcán Osorno in Chile.
Cabeza del Indio (Head of the Indian)
8 km west of El Bolsón, on a ridge top, a rock formation resembles the profile
of an Indian Cross the bridge over the River Quemquemtrue, and after 3-km
turn to the right and take a path that leads to the Head of the Indian.
From here one can see the valley of the Río Azul.
Botanical garden of Mallín
It is the only botanical garden in Patagonia and the source of the Waterfall
of the Mallín.
Catarata del Mallín
Waterfall of the Mallín When travelling the Cicuito del Mallín one arrives
at the waterfall framed by native vegetation. The waterfall forms two steps
and falls 20 meters. A power station takes advantage of the energy of the
water and generates electricity.
Fishing
Arco Iris trout, perches, pejerrey and brown trout are plentiful in the
area. The ideal places are the Lakes Cholila, Epuyén and Puelo and the River
Carrileufú.

Futalaufquen Lake (17 K) |
National Park Lago Puelo !5 km south of El Bolsón, this
lake offers an excellent opportunity of swimming, fishing, sailing, and
camping Located to the south of El Bolsón one has to cross Parallel 42,
the limit between the Provinces Río Negro and Chubut.
National Park Los Alerces
Along the route 258 toward the south one crosses the valleys of El Hoyo,
Epuyén and Cholila. When arriving at Villa Rivadavia one arrives at one
of the most beautiful parks in Argentina. One can visit Lago Verde, Arrayanes
River, Lake Menendez and Lake Futalaufquen.
Puerto Patriada
After crossing the River Epuyén and continuing a route skirting chacras
and forests one arrives at the lake Epuyén. There is a camping site and
all the tranquillity of the world.
Cerro Lindo
This escursion can be made on food or on horseback, and it takes, at least
two days. There is a shleter where you can sleep and eat. There is no
need of any trekking equipment, but it is recommended to make the excursion
accompanied by a guide.
It is recommended to carry two pairs of socks.
Cajón del Azul
Here, one can see the Río Azul through an opnening in the Mountain,
which is only 1 meter wide, and 40 meter deep. At Atilio´s shelter
one can have house made bread, drinks and place to rest. This is a one
day escursion.
Catarata de El Hoyo
One can get to El Hoyo Waterfalls by car. From the parking place one has
to walk along a track, to the waterfalls which fall from a hight of 90
meters.
Waterfall of the Missionary Virgin
Almost at the end of the walnuts road there is a deviation that gets to
the Nahuel Pan and from there a picturesque path leads to the small fall.
