San Salvador de Jujuy
San Salvador is the capital city of the province of Jujuy, it was founded in 1593 and is crossed by the rivers Xibi Xibi and Grande and it is 1,259 m above sea level.
Its colonial architecture is preserved in Santa Bárbara Chapel (XVIIIth century) in the streets Lamadrid and Belgrano and in the House of Lavalle (beginning of the XIXth century).
In the main square, there is the Cathedral (1761-65), and the Town Council - today headquarters of the provincial police - and the Government House.
The Cathedral has a magnificent pulpit carved in Ñandubay wood, a masterpiece of Baroque art in Argentina.
