El Chaltén
220 km to the north of El Calafate is the tourist village El Chaltén near the Viedma. Lake Reserve. The Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy dominate the landscape, two imposing mountains, which are a permanent challenge for all the mountaineers of the world.

Glaciers like the Viedma and the Moyano drain their ice on the lake. Here there are interesting trekking alternatives, riding and sailing can be enjoyed in the Viedma Lake. Trips from the Chaltén to Chorrillo del Salto 5 km from El Chaltén along the same route that continues to the Lago del Desierto. It is a waterfall of more than 15 meters high.

Located 25 km away from el Chaltén, this lake of glacial origin lies on a narrow valley, surrounded by abrupt hillsides covered by a Patagonic forest of enormous trees. There are multiple trekking possibilities and excellent views to the Fitz Roy.


Cerro Fitz Roy (20 K)

230 km to the north of El Calafate and to the west of Lake Viedma is the mountain Fitz Roy. It is 3405 m high . Nearby are the Cerro Torre of 3129 metros, Poincenot of 30'76 m and Cordón Adela of 3938 m.
Fitz Roy was the Captain of the Beagle, the ship that took Charles Darwin to Patagonia. In tehuelche, the language spoken by the Indians, its name is "Chaltén". Ocasionally, at dawn, the mountain looks sa if it were on fire, the phenomenon is called amanecer de fuego.

Río Turbio
Río Turbio The town of Río Turbio is in the Southwest of the Province of Santa Cruz. It is connected with the Capital City through the National Route 40, (288 km). During the winter months it is the ideal destination for skiers. The centre of winter sports is Valdelén, which has all the necessary services needed.. It is located on the mountain Dorotea 6 km away from Río Turbio. The height is 545 above sea level. The ski season is from June to September. In spring and summer the place is ideal for walks in lenga forests.
