The city of Ushuaia has around 50.000 inhabitants and it is the capital of the Province of Tierra del Fuego. The city grows continually thanks to the immigration and to new industries. Lately big hotels have been built near the harbour because of the many tourists that visit the area.
Ushuaia was created in 1884 and in 1906 the ill-famous prison was inaugurated. From Ushuaia numerous excursions can be made: Martial Glacier, Farm El Tunel, National Park Tierra del Fuego, Lapataia, to the Beagle Channel and the islands nearby or take a plane to Cabo de Hornos.
